Aachen gets a new Festival
‘The best type of singing’ will see a festival devoted to it for the first time this year in Aachen.
The ‘International Chorbiennale’, which will see its Aachen premiere in June 2009, was initiated by four Aachen chamber choruses, all winners of national and international choral competitions; particularly ‘Carmina Mundi’ under the direction of Harald Nickoll as the latest winner of the German Choral Competition. Together with the choruses – the others include The Aachen Chamber Chorus under Martin te Laak, The Madrigal Chorus of Aachen under Hans Leenders and ‘Der Junge Chor’ of Aachen under Professor Fritz ter Wey – municipal director and cultural department head Wolfgang Rombey and Generalmusikdirektor Marcus Bosch have created a biannual choral festival that will present and highlight Aachen’s choral landscape. The ‘International Chorbiennale’ gives the choral singing of North Rhine-Westphalia and the nation a new platform through the participation of the best international choruses and select professional choruses.
